To my new followers
Welcome, and thanks for following me! My blog, as you may have noticed, is used primarily for quote posting and philosophical rambling.  Many of the quotes I post originally are coming from works I am reading for class or for my thesis project.  I’ve been making the rounds of various philosophical texts, and occasionally explicating parts of them if I feel they are wort discussing. I also...

Should Schools Stop Teaching Cursive Writing? →
literarymuse: I can’t even write in print. When I try, it comes out all scrawly. This article talks mostly about how the decision not to teach cursive comes out of the fact that its not tested through No Child Left Behind legislation. I think a lot of it has to do with the proliferation of typing now that most have computers or at least access to one. Personally, as a person who grew up during...

Philosophical Ramblings of the Night
I have a feeling these nightly ramblings might become somewhat regular.  I am current studying for my second attempt at my Comprehensive exams, and I may write about the essays I read that day.  Today, I bring you thoughts on Karl Marx. I’m not aiming on going off on some kind of some sort of politico-social rant; my particular interests were perked by his Estranged Labor and The Meaning of...

Ok Tumblr...
Why are you randomly adding and removing the people I follow?  I check once, and I am following 4 less people.  I click again to check, and they are back.  I nod and say okay, go back about my business, and they are gone again!

Back in action
I forgot how tiring Aikido can be, especially when you haven’t practiced in quite a long time.  It made me realize how out of shape I had become. But damn, it made me feel good.  I am glad to be back practicing Aikido.

Damned if you do, Damned if you don't.
We have a funny way of making our own lives more difficult for ourselves, when by our own energies and desires, we actively stop ourselves from doing or saying that which we would like, out of no rational reason except that we fear what may come, yet recoil in that very same horror for never saying or doing what we would really like.

Full Circle
I entered a bit late into the academic philosophy game.  It hadn’t been my first choice, and to be honest, had not been something I had considered at all for my college career. After I stopped flying, and was in flux for a time between majors, I decided to explore other possibilities for my education, among them psychology and philosophy.  English might have been fun, too, but I...

Thoughts on Mencius
Following up my thoughts of some of the passages of the Lun-yu, I’d like to comment on some passages from the Mencius which I thought were particularly poignant.  If you are unaware, Mencius was a Chinese philosopher of the Confucian tradition, and is generally regarded as the second most important philosopher in that tradition besides Confucius.  The key work studied for his work is...

Love
I’m sure that the you I have built up in my head is nothing like the you in real life. But then again, I think that is what love is for.  It reconciles the you I have in my head with the real you, and creates something all the more vivid and real than any single notion of you could ever lead me to believe.

Posting
Regular posting will resume after Friday. I am so worried right now.  I feel like I just don’t have enough time, anymore.  Its the second time around, so it should be easier, but I just feel like no matter how much I read and study, I am not prepared.

Journal
In 1998, I read at least 67 books.  Looking through my list, I know there were books in the middle that weren’t added, but those 67 are the ones I have chronicled. This may be one of the greatest gifts I was ever given.  A journal of all the books I read, as kept by my mother. And the love of reading that she fostered in me.
