Sigh
It seems that I have now found a good groove for writing papers over time, rather than cramming them all into the two days before they are due.  This irritates me that I am only finding this groove now, after 6 and a half years of college, as I am finish up my masters degree. Fuck me sideways.

T Minus 2 Months
Less than that, really. 7 years is a long time to think about, when it comes to packing it all up. Not just that, 7 years of friendships I am moving away from, of what have been my entire life for the last 7 years. And, for that matter, leaving behind everyone else I know. I’m excited, but I’m also scared.  Its gonna be a long, lonely trip.

– Kvothe, The Wise Man’s Fear, by Patrick Rothfuss This quote, taken out of context, can be confusing.  Here, Kvothe is suffering from nightmares of the first people he murdered in cold blood.  He is awakened by one of the shellshocked young girls the people had kidnapped and raped, and he...

The Starfall of my Eyes
I miss the way I used to stare at the sky on a calm day and see nothing but endless possibility. Nowadays, I look to the sky and all I see is time slipping away. When did I lose the eyes which say the wideness of what might be, and become only aware of the moments slipping away? I think that must be why I stare at the stars with such awe. The timeless nature of their beauty is punctuated only...

Argh.  I’m writing a paper, and I hit the end of a sentence, and so I typed a period, but a semi-colon kept popping up.  I went back and typed it like 4 times before I realized I simply had something on my laptop screen that looked like the top of the semi-colon. Yeah. I’m a genius, I know.

Today, for the first time ever, I damn well started yelling and screaming at my coworker.  I rarely get mad, and damn near ever get physically angry. Today, he pissed me off soooo much, I damn near killed him. Rage.  So much rage.

Deep philosophical thoughts.
Whenever I see someone wish another person a Happy Bday, I always pronounce it in my head “Bidet.”  At that point, I have to wonder, what is it like having a happy bidet?  Is a unhappy bidet worse?  Would anyone really want anything other than a normal bidet??

Hello new philosophers! An edit.
Okay, I lied.  I may or may not have translated two different passages for you.  To be fair, lets blame the Mohist canon of writing, who includes three different versions of the same passage, saying the same general thing, in three different damn ways. But still. Confusing shit, yo. Wanna know something funny?  Modern translations of the name Mo Tzu / Motse have gone to Mozi.  This has sparked...

30 Day Book Challenge Day 7: Worst Book You've...
Worst book in the last year… I don’t actually have an answer for this question.  In the last year, I have been pretty happy with everything I read. If you want a really general answer, I can tell you the books I have enjoyed the least (but that I still enjoyed!) Those would be the the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik. Novik is an excellent writer plagued by exceptionally poor...
