Matchbox 20 - Unwell

Hey Baby, they’re playing our song

The one we used to hear when we used to get along.

I think it is kind of funny how we tend to have “our” songs.  It was a song we sang together, and in some ways, really was significatory of our relationship.  We both knew it, and we both acknowledged it.  It really was “our” song.

I heard it on the radio this morning as I drove to work, and I couldn’t help but start singing it.  It was only the ending chorus, but it really brought memories of us back.  For the longest time, if I even heard the opening of that song, I would have to turn it off.  Its been a couple years since I was like that.  That’s healing, I suppose.

Today I sang along, and smiled for that little bit of time, remembering the good times, and not the bad.

Yesterday I heard the song I have come to associate with our breakup, and I sang along to that, too.  It reminds me of it, but no longer does it pang like it once did, and more readily do I sing it, not as a breakup, but merely as a song.

I write about music a lot, though I am not so interested in it philosophically in strictly the academic sense.  I just enjoy it, and like talking about it.  Music becomes associated with memories, with hard times, and with good times.  Off the top of your head, what is a song that you associate with good times or bad times in your life?
